Fertilizer Exports and Imports by Country: 2024 Trade Data

A handful of countries supply most of the world’s traded fertilizer. In 2024, Canada and Russia together shipped more than 60% of reported potash exports, Morocco was the largest exporter of both DAP and MAP, Russia led urea exports, and China supplied more than 80% of ammonium sulphate exports. On the import side, India, Brazil and the United States are among the biggest buyers of almost every product.

This page brings together 2024 trade data from UN Comtrade for each major fertilizer, with links to our detailed databases where you can search every reporting country.

How to read the figures

  • Source: UN Comtrade, by HS code, for calendar year 2024. Quantities are in thousand tonnes (kt) and values in US dollars.
  • Reported data: each country reports its own trade. Some large exporters, including Russia, did not report 2024 data. For those, we show partner-reported (mirror) figures: what importing countries said they bought. These are marked with an asterisk and are usually a minimum.
  • Totals are sums of reported figures and will not match global production statistics.

What the data mean for buyers

  • Concentration risk. For potash, ammonium sulphate and phosphates, a few origins dominate. Export restrictions or logistics problems in one country can move world prices.
  • Origin affects price. Average export values differ between origins because of product form, contract timing and freight.
  • Check sanctions and trade rules. Some origins are subject to sanctions or restrictions in certain markets. Our trade compliance page explains how we check this.
  • Follow prices too. See our fertilizer prices 2026 tracker for monthly benchmark prices.
